This program is held for one week no dance training is required for participants. The main objective is to offer one week of Hip Hop, Step Dance, Line Dance, and creative movement classes that will entertain participants while developing coordination, and rhythm.

Students must be familiar with basic barre, basic positions of the feet and arms, and basic center floor exercises. Emphasis will be placed on posture, placement, strengthening the point of the feet, improving the turn out, and strong and proper body alignment. Students will further develop their knowledge of ballet through vocabulary and movement that will challenge their ability to move precisely and gracefully. On the last day of camp, families will be invited to watch a ballet demonstration given by the students.

Dance Camp 7: Tap Camp (Group 1 & Group 2)
Dates: July 2nd-3rd, 5th-6th
Times: 8am-1pm
Students must be familiar with basic tap steps such as the shuffle, flap, ball change, pull back, and riff. Students will learn a variety of tap rhythms ranging in Broadway tap, rhythm tap, and hoofing. Emphasis will be placed on learning the history of tap, tap vocabulary, improvisation, and choreography. On the last day of camp, families will be invited to watch a tap demonstration given by the students.

This camp recommends that students have some ballet experience. Warm-ups will consist of the Horton Technique Using laterals, flat back positions, lunges, deep plies, and drop and recover for strength and balance. On the last day of camp, families will be invited to watch a modern demonstration given by the students.

This camp recommends that students have some modern dance, creative movement, or ballet experience. Students will learn a variety of interpretive and expressive movements to music ranging in contemporary gospel, hip hop gospel, and old spirituals. Emphasis on the use of hands, arms, formations, and the use of props such as streamers, tambourines, fans, fabric, and chairs. No religious teachings in this camp. On the last day of camp, families will be invited to watch a PRAISE demonstration given by the students.

Dancers will learn a variety of choreography and staging techniques, learn the use of music, props, set design, and lighting design for choreography, learn about famous contemporary choreographers, and will compose a piece of choreography to be premiered in an in-house performance during the fall. Emphasis will be placed on learning the history of tap and building rhythm vocabulary to perform in advanced tap choreography. Families will be invited to the last day of class.

Dancer will further develop their knowledge of ballet through vocabulary and movement that will challenge their ability to move precisely yet gracefully. Petite allegro, adagio, and strengthening the Pointe work are also focal points in which the dancers will be perfecting. Families will be invited to the last day of class.

Spartan Enrichment Camp

This enrichment camp will provide opportunities for students to experience unique talents and activities. Geo-cacheing; jewelry making, guitar playing, cooking, and leather making are some examples of the classes which will be taught in this camp. Campers will have the opportunity to register for one session or stay all day for four sessions.

May 21 - 25 Functional Pots for Tots
This is the week for budding potters to get their hands in the clay. The week will include a variety of functional pottery projects. Campers will create one-of-a-kind clay pieces and decorate them with colored clay slips. We’ll even see how clay spins on the wheel for some hands-on gooey fun.
May 29 – June 1 Funky Folk Art
The freshness of a child’s perspective lends itself beautifully to the folk art style. Projects this week will include dot-painting, clay masks, and the decoration of a real clay face-jug. (4-DAY CAMP - Tuition: $88 + Materials: $15 = $103)
June 4 - 8 Pirates and Parrots
Argghhh! There will be plenty of swashbuckling fun this week with nautically-themed projects: clay sharks, desert islands, and more.
June 11 - 15 Down on the Farm
Tractors, silos, and all the barnyard pals will make an appearance this week. Kids can also make berry bowls and a special dish for their favorite vegetable.
June 18 - 22 Young Naturalists
This week will feature a special visit from the naturalists at Sandy Creek Nature Center. We will make art projects inspired by their visit: clay animal sculptures, masks, figurines and large animal drawings and paintings.
June 25 – June 29 Volcanoes
Kids will make clay models of volcanoes, geysers, and other geological wonders that really erupt for a week of art and science exploration.
July 2 - 6 America the Beautiful
Celebrate the week of Fourth of July with patriotic projects like clay flags, American landmarks and landform models.
July 9 - 13 Dinosaurs
Set your time machine for the Cretaceous and get ready for some dino-themed clay fun. We’ll sculpt our favorite prehistoric pals, make dinosaur trackways, and even make hatching dinosaur eggs.
July 16 - 20 Down by the Seaside
Art projects inspired by the ocean and beach will be the theme for this week. Colorful clay fish, spiny echinoderms, and funky sandcastles are just some of the fun that’s in store.
July 23 - 27 Garden Art for Little Sprouts
Campers will explore such wonders of the garden as seed germination, pollination, soil building and more. This week will be a blend of art, science, and hands-on gardening. Campers will even create their very own planting in their clay planters.
July 30 – August 3 Rainforest Adventure
The plants, animals and people of the rainforest will inspire this week’s art projects. Animal masks, hot cocoa mugs, and ceremonial bowls are just some of the projects in store.
August 6 - 10 Fossil Hunters
Campers this week will blend the science of fossil formation with some very accessible clay forming techniques. From duck-billed dinosaur eggs to fossil fish, plants and dino tracks, campers can satisfy their natural fascination with paleontology while getting their hands dirty in the clay studio.

This ceramic survey class will include handbuilding techniques and wheel throwing, as well as outdoor Raku and stoneware firings.
May 29 – June 1 Drawing and Painting
Using a variety of graphic techniques and drawing media, campers will learn fundamentals to help them translate their imagination and perception of the natural world into two dimensions. Projects will include both traditional 2-D media and painting with slip and incised decoration on moist clay tiles

June 4 – 8 Ninja Clay
Dragon sculptures, ninja masks, teabowls and talismans…kids will spend the week making art projects inspired by fantasy.
June 11 - 15 Animal Sculptures
Students will spend the entire week working toward a final sculpture project depicting their favorite animal. This will involve a number of steps, from sketching and model-making to the actual creation of components and assembly.
June 18 - 22 Mythological Beasts
This week will draw on the wonderful hybrid creatures that populate so many myths and legends. Centaurs, chimaeras, and harpies will inspire both paintings and clay sculptures, and we’ll finish the week by creating our own mixed-up characters and the legends behind them.
June 25 – June 29 Aliens and UFO’s
What would life on other planets look like, and what kinds of remarkable spacecraft might let the aliens visit us? These questions will inspire all kinds of creative sculptural ideas for a week of clay modeling, character development, and storytelling.
July 2 - 6 Wheel Throwing and Slab Building
Students will combine simple wheel-thrown forms with clay slabs to create projects of increasing complexity throughout the week.
July 9 - 13 Asian Pottery
The ceramic history of China, Korea and Japan will inspire this week of pot-making exploration. A variety of hand building, wheel throwing, firing and decorating techniques will be covered. We will learn about stoneware glazing and fire up the Raku kiln on Friday for some crackled and iridescent results.
July 16 - 20 Art for the Garden
We will use ceramic and other sculptural materials to make gargoyles, garden gnomes, bird houses and funky planters.
July 23 - 27 Folk Pottery on the Wheel
Campers will explore the many important forms that potters supplied before the widespread availability of plastic, metal and glass containers. Jugs (some with grotesque faces), pitchers, crocks, and other utilitarian forms will be the goal for our wheel-thrown fun this week.
July 30 – August 3 Beyond Round
Campers with prior experience on the wheel (e.g. youth wheel classes, “Turning and Burning” or “Asian Pottery” camps, etc.) will be challenged to find new ways to create pottery by assembling parts, darting and altering, and combining throwing and handbuilding techniques. Although good foundational techniques will be covered, the emphasis will be on exploration and fun with clay on the wheel.
August 6 – 10 Turning to Burning II
This ceramic survey class will include handbuilding techniques and wheel throwing, as well as outdoor Raku and stoneware firings.

May 21 – 25 Fused Glass I
We will experiment with fusing layers of colored glass in the kiln to create shimmering chimes, pendants, ornaments, and coasters. The interplay of color and light makes fused glass a very exciting medium that is surprisingly accessible for beginners. Kim is developing a number of new projects to keep things interesting for repeat youth fusers. (Materials: $50) Kim Sutherland
May 29 – June 1 Face Jugs and Roosters Students will learn about the rich history of clay work in Georgia and how potters made so many necessities of daily life with just local materials and ingenuity. A combination of wheel work and hand sculpting

June 4 – 8 Musical Clay
We will create sculptural whistles that really work, ceramic tone drums, udu drums, and ocarinas. No musical ability required, just an interest in sound and how it’s created. Rob Sutherland
June 11 - 15 Pottery on the Wheel
Students will learn the basic techniques for making a variety of pottery forms on the potter’s wheel. The last class will feature a firing extravaganza in our Raku kiln. Graduates of the class may enroll in summer wheel classes or independent studio with permission.
June 18 - 22 Revolutionary Pottery
The potter’s wheel will be center stage this week, but we’ll push the clay creations to new heights by stacking, combining, and altering the thrown forms. A variety of surface decoration and firing options will be available.
June 25 – June 29 All Fired Up
We will spend the entire week making wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces designed to take advantage of the exciting crackled and iridescent glazes of the Raku kiln. Students will take part in the exciting firing process that involves transferring hot pots to a smoky post-firing reduction vessel. What kid wouldn’t love this camp? Rob Sutherland
July 2 - 6 Folk Art
Fun, funky art projects will use recycled and found objects. Dot painting, scrap assemblages, collage, and face jug decoration will keep the students’ creative juices flowing throughout the week.
July 9 - 13 Figurative Clay Sculpture
Students will experience the entire creative process of creating medium to large-scale ceramic sculptures. Beginning with sketching and maquettes, students will design figurative pieces that overcome the constraints of gravity by using hollow and sectional construction techniques.
July 16 - 20 Snack Attack
We’ll create funky, festive serving pieces this week using both wheel and handbuilding techniques. Students will be encouraged to develop their own personal set of design motifs for popcorn bowls, cupcake stands, and pizza plates.
July 23 - 27 Fused Glass II
Students will tackle more complicated projects this week using copper wire, open latticework, and recycled glass. (Materials: $50) Kim Sutherland
